| Abstract:
PIEX is an expert system that allows rapid classifying of pineapple varieties in breeding studies. From interviews to users including questions about thorns, spirality and others, the system offers the name of the unknown variety whose characteristics are in the sample under study with probability values for each of the proposed answers. It offers the possibilities to justify the used logics. PIEX contains botanic and genetic elements on species, cultural practices, variety images, and glossary of terminology. The system raises the confidence level within the classification process. Academic uses of the system are possible because of its didactic structure. Hardware requeriment is a compatible IBM computer, with VGA type graphic monitor, 640 Kb of RAM and 2.5 Mb in hard disk space. | |
