ISHS Acta Horticulturae 424: II International Rose Symposium

COMPARISON OF ROSE YIELDS WITH UPWARD AND DOWNWARD CUT METHODS

Authors:   A. Champeroux, A. Jaffrin, M. Le Bris
Abstract:
64 adult rose plants (Rosa hybrida cv. Diplomate), were grown soilless, with 2 harvesting methods (Fig. la & lb):
  • the traditional upward cut in which each flower stem is harvested by leaving on the mother-plant its first two 5-leaflet leaves;
  • the downward cut, which consists in initiating shoot breaks on successive downward positions of a cane after suppression of its apex bud.
