ISHS Acta Horticulturae 424: II International Rose Symposium

EFFECT OF THE POSITION OF CUTTINGS ALONG THE MOTHER-STEM (ROSA HYBRIDA CV.'RUIDRIKO' VIVALDI®) ON THE DEGREE OF RAMIFICATION IN SOILLESS CULTURE

Authors:   M. Le Bris, A. Champéroux, A. Morisot
Abstract:
Cuttings are characterized by their position along the mother-stem. After a stage of rhizogenesis, they are planted in rockwool slab and optimal conditions of fertigation are applied to them. The primary shoot is bent horizontally and the different branches obtained on the proximal 10 centimeters are observed. According to the position of the cutting along the mother-stem, there is a negative (basipetal) gradient of the number of bottom-breaks issued from accessory buds, associated with a positive one for the bottom-breaks issued from proximal axillary buds (at the axil of 5-leaflet leaves). These different types of bottom-breaks are characterized by their morphological leaf sequence and their vigour (length, diameter and number of sylleptic shoots).
