Abstract:
The GEVES unity (Group of study and control of varieties and seeds) of Sophia-Antipolis performs technical examinations of rose varieties in connection with the issue of Certificate of Plant Creation (COV) by the Committee for the Protection of Plant Creations (CPOV). Within this framework it observes 46 phenotypic descriptive features of the various organs.
As the visual observations remain subjective, the GEVES developed an image analysis program to make the morphological descriptions objective and reliable.
The present work focuses on the description of flowers and petals.
The conditions of image acquisition, the various stages of their processing : the spotting of the object of interest, the description of the object of interest and finally the calculated parameters are presented.
The essential stage of quantification of the intra-flower, intra-plant, intra-variety, inter-season, inter-place of growing variability is mentioned.
The future prospects of integration of data obtained into a knowledge base system in mentioned.
