Abstract:
Water consumption of roses cvs. 'llseta' and 'Jaguar' growing on volcanic lapilli is studied.
Using 10 m long lysimeters as experimental units, three particle sizes of "picón" and three irrigation frequencies were compared.
Data obtained were: water consumption and drainage, number of flowers produced, stem length, fresh weight and malformed and unsaleable flowers.
In 'Jaguar', total number produced and saleable flowers, and stem length, were affected by irrigation frequency, but not in 'llseta'. Particle size only slightly influenced stem length in 'llseta'.
Data are also compared with those obtained with the same cvs. growing in normal soil and in rockwool.
