Abstract:
The most important and common fungal and bacterial diseases of roses are reviewed, with special emphasis on those causing the most serious damages.
Powdery mildew and Botrytis blight, among foliar diseases, retain a great importance, even when effective fungicides are available, often requiring a high number of treatments/season; downy mildew and black spot, on the contrary, are less important. Coniothyrium fuckelii and Verticillium dahliae are causing increasing damages, mainly due to the adoption of cultural practices which reduce the length of the vegetative cycle of plants during preparation.
The availability of A. radiobacter as biocontrol agent permits to achieve good results against Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Antagonistic fungi and natural products, such as phosphates, carbonates, oils offer new possibilities for the control of some foliar diseases.
