Abstract:
This extensive study of pollination relations included cultivars recommended for integrated growing systems in the Czech Republic, summer cultivars, and, besides, a number of new cultivars.
Most apple cultivars grown in the Czech Rebublic are good pollinizers for other cultivars bearing in mind their time of flowering.
Pollen cross-incompatibility between 2 unrelated cultivars seems to be a very rare phenomenon in this fruit species as only 1 such case from about 250 different combinations tested was found.
However, the probability that cross-incompatibility would be present, is much higher, when 2 closely related cultivars are used.
There were 5 (or probably 6) cross-incompatible pairs in the approximately 40 combinations of closely related cultivars which were tested.
Results of testing for pollen compatibility and data on time of flowering for the cultivars are given.
