Abstract:
A prototype of low cost, small-dimension and light tunnel sprayer with a new concept of air-jet discharge system was developed.
The air outlets were directed 40° upward aiming the top of the tree canopy.
Spray distribution within the tree canopy for the prototype tunnel sprayer was compared with that for the commercial cross-flow tunnel sprayer (JOCO) and standard directed air-jet sprayer (SEPIA). The ratios of spray deposit on upper and lower leaf surface, being a measure of spray distribution uniformity, were as follows: 1.5–3.0 for the prototype tunnel, 7.5–14.6 for the commercial JOCO tunnel and 5.0–12.7 for directed air-jet sprayer.
