FLORAL INITIATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW ORNAMENTAL ALLIUM SPECIES |

| Abstract:
Floral initiation and development has been carried out on three ornamental species from the genus Allium. All species belong to the subgenus Melanocrommyum, two of them - A. karataviense and A. altissimum are distributed in Central Asia, while A. rothii is found in the Mediterranean area. Initiation of the monocarpic shoot of Central Asian species begins during the flowering stage of the mother plant. After differentiation of leaf primordia, the apical meristem of these species remains inactive for 6–10 weeks. The meristem begins floral initiation in August. In A. rothii, the apical meristem remains inactive for 12–15 weeks after flowering of the mother plant, leaf primordia then form during the "rest" stage in July-October, and the meristem immediately becomes reproductive. | |
