Abstract:
A successful tissue culture protocol has been developed for the regeneration of shoots from stem segments of some cultivars of the Marguerite Daisy (Argyranthemum spp.) on solid MS medium containing 30g/L sucrose, 0.5mg/L NAA and 1.0–5.0mg/L BAP. The genetics of self-incompatibility in this genus has shown a co-dominant interaction and also a dominant/recessive interaction of the self-incompatibility alleles in the pollen of different cultivars.
Cultivars homozygous for the self-incompatibility alleles have also been observed.
Other investigations with Argyranthemum spp. include cytology. genetic transformation using Agrobacterium tumefaciens, and genetics of flower colour.
