Authors:   R. Karaca, A. Nizamoglu
Abstract:
This work was carried out on the nuts grown in the collection garden of the Institute. Eight of them were Turkish (Kirmizi, Uzun, Halebi, Siirt, Çakmak, Ketengömlegi, Degirmi, Sultani) and five of them were Iranian (Ohadi, Vahidi, Mümtaz, Haci Serifi, Sefidi) varieties and their pomological characteristics have been investigated in this work.

The analysis were based on the results of 1984, 1985, 1987. The nuts of Iranian pistachio trees were bigger than Turkish nuts. Approximate weight of the 100 Iranian pistachio nuts was 162.03 g. while Turkish types were about 129.72 g. Splitting percentages of Turkish types were 67.14 % and the Iranian nuts were about 78.70 %.

Approximate fat of Turkish and Iranian nuts were about 57.68 % and 55.43 %, respectively. The protein content of Turkish type was 22.08 % and Iranian type was 22.69 %. There was not an important difference between Iranian and Turkish nuts in protein content.
