ISHS Acta Horticulturae 419: I International Symposium on Pistachio

EFFECTS OF RADICULE TIP PINCHING AND GIBBERELLIC ACID ON THE GROWTH OF CONTAINER GROWN PISTACIA SEEDLINGS UNDER THE GLASSHOUSE CONDITIONS

Authors:   Y. Nikpeyma, N. Kaska
Abstract:
The purpose of this experiment is to get pistachio nut rootstocks with abundant lateral roots. The effects of scarification, GA3 and radicule pinching on the diameter of the stem, dry weight of the roots, number and length of tap roots were studied. In the experiments 3 pistachio nuts (Kirmizi, Siirt, Ohadi) and 3 wild species (P.terebinthus, L., P.atlantica, Desf. and P.khinjuk, Stocks) were used as rootstocks. The experiments were performed in a slightly heated glasshouse.

From the stand point of the growth of above ground parts Siirt and Ohadi have given superior seedlings. P.terebinthus had the most heaviest root system. Both the number and length of the tap roots were higher in P.atlantica than those of the other experimental seed sources. The effects of GA3 were found unstable. Radicule pinching did not effect the dry weight of the roots.
