Various effects of electromagnetic radiation like heat, photosynthesis, photomorphogenesis and human vision are discussed.
Action mechanisms of radiation on plants or the human eye are outlined and the corresponding units of measurement are given.
The need to identify the quantity sought and to choose the corresponding unit is stressed.
The reader is dissuaded from using conversion factors.
Some procedures for the measurement of daylight and artificial light are drawn up.
