ISHS Acta Horticulturae 417: International Symposium on Greenhouse Crop Models

MODELING THE UPTAKE OF WATER AND NITRATE (NO3) OF ROSE PLANTS IN HYDROPONIC CULTURE.

Authors:   R. Brun, A. Morisot
Keywords:   greenhouse, fertigation, soilless culture
Abstract:
An experimental hydroponic system (nutrient film technique N.F.T. system) is used to measure water and nitrate uptake rates of Rosa hybrida on a short term basis: hourly fluctuations over a nycthemera.

As it is well known for more species, water absorption closely follows the climatic demand with a large peak during the day whereas nitrate absorption seems to start slightly before.

Relating absorption to agroclimatic factors, we can elaborate a model in order to evaluate the instantaneous nitrate needs of the plant. This approach is a first step in the development of real time algorithms for fertigation computers.
