RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LAI AND TREE ARCHITECTURE IN PEACH TREE GENOTYPES DIFFERING FOR HABIT

Authors:   M. Antonelli, P. Cappellini
Keywords:   P. persica, canopy, light penetration, LAI, DIFN
Abstract:
Four peach tree genotypes, differing for habit and size, where examined to describe their crown structure in relation to the light penetration into the canopy. Two parameters were considered: Leaf Area Index {LAI) at ground level and Diffuse Non-interceptance (DIFN) at several sites in the canopy. The highest LAI was recorded for dwarf type, followed by semidwarf, standard and columnar ones. The crown structure and the different light penetration of the genotypes is discussed.
