Abstract:
Quarantine issues in the international trade in asparagus are reviewed.
Specialist asparagus pests and diseases have had a deleterious effect on asparagus production when they have increased their range.
Asparagus is also attacked by local pests wherever it is grown that pose potential risks to other regions where the crop is grown.
There are limited options for pest and disease detection on asparagus and no realistic quarantine treatment for the potential pests and diseases on the crop.
It is essential that quarantine precautions are taken to prevent the further spread of asparagus pests and diseases.
