BULBLET FORMATION AND DORMANCY INDUCTION AS INFLUENCED BY TEMPERATURE, GROWING MEDIA AND LIGHT QUALITY DURING SCALING PROPAGATION OF LILIUM SPECIES

Abstract:
Dormant bulblets (DB) were developed at 25°C and 30°C and non-dormant bulblets (NDB) were developed at 20°C when Lilium speciosum, 'Casablanca' and L. x elegans 'Connecticut King' lilies were scale propagated. The number, weight, and diameter of regenerated bulblets were increased at 20 and 25°C as compared to 30°C. The number of bulblets was high when propagated under far-red light. Root development of both cultivars was promoted when scaling was done in the growing medium composed of peatmoss. Dormant bulblets were produced, regardless of light qualities during propagation. Changes of endogenous ABA- and GA-like substances were closely related to the degree of dormant bulblet formation at all temperatures.
