Abstract:
The response of three cultivars of the eggplant (Striped, Long Purple, and Round Black) to the three osmotic potentials of the nutrient solutions was studied in greenhouse conditions. Plants were harvested at 7, 16 and 25 weeks after trasplanting. Round Black and Striped yielded more when they were grown with ¾ and full nutrient solutions, being scare differences between them. The yields of Long Purple were higher for ½ solution than the others. Sap analysis reveal a balanced nutrition for all cultivars grown with different total concentration of the solutions. DAta obtained reveal the necessity to fit the nutrient supply to the appropriate level to achieve the higher yields, resulting in an important fertilizer saving, which it is closely linked to genetic attribute of each cultivar.
