Abstract:
Two bell pepper (Capsium amnuum cv.
Clovis) plant densities (2.0 and 3.2 plants.m-2) were compared in unheated plastic greenhouse in a sand mulched soil, along the autumn-winter cycle in Almeria (Spain). The higher values of leaf area index (LAI) in the high density treatment generated better radiation interception, inducing significantly higher total (6.13 vs. 4.78 kg.m-2), commercial (5.68 vs. 4.39 kg.m-2)abd first quality (3.82 vs. 3.04 kg.m-2) yields.
The differences in radiation, around the winter solstice, between different zones of the greenhouse (quantified in a complementary trial) induced differences in pepper yields.
