Abstract:
Bacterial EPS was produced from cankers of the previous year on a number of quince trees and pear varieties of Spadona and Dom Kaj in mid April and later.
Symptoms from recent year infections were produced after blossom period in pears and apples which coincided with quince blossoming period.
Although there was a high inoculum due to disease spread in pears and apples, symptoms in quince appeared in late June after the end of the blossom period.
According to Billing's system, the optimum climate for infection was achieved in mid-April with PD = 9. Favourable climate in May caused the incubation periods to be finished and new cycles to be followed in May and June.
The temperature steadily increased during June and later months, but inadequate rain caused very prolonged incubation periods with no ends.
