Abstract:
A ten year study was conducted to determine the propagability and nursery stock quality of cherry varieties on different rootstocks at an experimental nursery in Hungary.
With sour cherry varieties, good results could be obtained on 'Korponay' and 'SM 1¼' rootstocks. 'Dunabogdány', 'SM 1¼' and 'SL 64' Mahaleb rootstocks proved best for sweet cherry varieties.
For sweet cherry, secondary shoot establishment on 'Dunabogdány' seemed to be the best of all.
Rootstocks 'Prob', 'MxM 14' and 'MxM 97', having lower vigour, would not induce any secondary shoots in the first year after establishment.
