Abstract:
This work describes the influence of temperature (15, 25 or 35°C), period of germination (6, 24 or 48 hours) and concentration of sucrose (10, 12 or 14%) on pollen germination capacity and pollen tube growth for four sour cherry cultivars ('Koroska', 'Heimans Konservenweichsell', 'Richmorency' and 'Schattenmorelle'), and one sweet cherry cultivar ('Germesdorfer Grosse Kirsche'). Germination and pollen tube growth were evaluated by means of laboratory methods for in vitro and in vivo pollen examination.
All cultivars showed greatest germination capacity and pollen tube growth with 12% sucrose at 25°C, and with an incubation period of 24 or 48 hours.
