Abstract:
A new non-destructive approach to ascertain the length of the effective pollination period and results concerning 6 sweet cherry varieties are reported.
During bloom, bee visits to the flowers were controlled with the use of a 35 mesh plastic net.
Starting from the beginning of flowering, decreasing fruit set was observed with the progressive removal of the bags, since a higher number of old flowers was visited by bees.
In particular, after 8–10 days from the beginning of flowering (depending on the variety), a decline in fruit set was observed.
