Abstract:
In recent years in Italy, interest in the domestic market towards late-ripening species and/or varieties of fruiting trees has increased.
In the hills of northwestern Italy (Pavia district), an old local variety not commonly in use for half a century was identified, described and re-introduced.
The fruit of this variety is quite large (> 12 g), with a dark red skin, firm pulp and good taste, and a ripening date about 40 days after 'Bigarreau M'. This variety was named 'Elisa', but in Italy now it is put in the market with the name 'Durone Tardivo Valstaffora'.
