Abstract:
Both Ethrel and Silaid, applied at 200 to 300 ppm, facilitated mechanical harvesting of both 'Pándy 279' and 'Érdi botermo' cultivars by significantly reducing the fruit removal force.
Soluble solids and flesh firmness of the fruits were not significantly affected.
Both compounds increased fruit weight and increased the uniformity of maturity, as indexed by colour development.
Gummosis was induced at 400 ppm Ethrel, but no significant leaf, chlorosis or terminal dieback was observed.
Neither gummosis nor leaf chlorosis were observed and abscission was insignificant at concentrations of 200 and 300 ppm of either chemical.
