Abstract:
The influence of vegetatively propagated rootstocks (P-HL-6, P-HL-84, Colt and MAXMA 14) on growth, blooming and health status of 5 sweet cherry cultivars ('Rivan', 'Burlat', 'Merton Premier', 'Buttner's Red' and 'Hedelfingen') was investigated.
Controls included all cultivars grafted on Mazzard seedlings.
Two years after planting, vigor of all cultivars was suppressed significantly by both P-HL rootstock types, especially by P-HL-6; Colt rootstock had no dwarfing influence.
Growth of 'Buttner's Red' was significantly reduced by the MAXMA 14 rootstock.
Trees on P-HL rootstocks started to bear fruits in the second year after planting.
They bloomed more abundantly than the controls.
In some combinations of cultivar and rootstock, incompatibility occurred.
