Abstract:
Self-sterile cherries and sour cherries do not yield satisfactorily in the absence of compatible pollinating cultivars.
Other cultivars also depend partly on pollination, and so their yield can be rather changeable from year to year.
In spite of its importance, little information is available on varietal features of cherry affecting bee pollination.
Fertilization of flowers and yield of self-sterile cultivars decrease as distance from the beehives increases (Free, 1970; Benedek et al., 1974; McGregor, 1976; Benedek, 1980), but little else is known.
For this reason, we decided to study the problem.
