THE EFFECT OF PRE-HARVEST CONDITIONS ON THE QUALITY OF CUT TULIPS |

| Abstract:
Owing to conditions prevailing during storage, transport, and in the greenhouse some unwanted effects (disorders) can occur, including short stems, flower-bud blasting, greening and toppling. These can be regarded partly as after-effects and partly as direct effects. The external factors mainly responsible for developmental aberrations in tulips are the storage temperature and the presence of ethylene in the atmosphere of storage rooms and greenhouses; some form of interaction between these factors seems to occur. It is supposed that during the vase life of cut tulips other effects can occur as a response to pre-harvest conditions. | |
