ISHS Acta Horticulturae 409: IV International Symposium on Growing Temperate Zone Fruits in the Tropics and in the Subtropics

EFFECTS OF PLANT WATER STRESS ON FRUIT SET OF NON-ASTRINGENT PERSIMMON UNDER CONTROLLED -ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS

Authors:   A.P. George, R.J. Nissen, H.C.B. de Kruiff
Abstract:
The effects of soil water stress on fruit set of the non-astringent persimmon cultivar 'Fuyu' were evaluated under controlled-environment conditions. All non-pollinated fruit dropped prior to the application of water stress due to low irradiance during and after anthesis. In contrast, fruit drop of pollinated fruit was low even at moderate stress levels (-1.8 Mpa). Physiological processes such as stomatal conductance and net assimilation were not adversely affected by water stress until available soil moisture fell below 50%.
