Abstract:
The effects of three substrates (perlite, peat-perlite 1:1 and pumice) irrigated at two frequencies on yield and flower quality of three Gerbera cultivars (Fame, Rosabella and Sunspot), were studied during a 6-month growth period.
Culture in peat-perlite (1:1) mixture produced better or similar yield and flower quality compared to soil.
The performance of gerberas in perlite culture was intermediate while in pumice was the lowest, though satisfactorily.
The irrigation frequencies did not impose significant differences.
Fame had the highest yield and biggest flower head diameter, whereas Sunspot had the lowest yield and the longest flower stem.
