ISHS Acta Horticulturae 407: ISHS Brassica Symposium - IX Crucifer Genetics Workshop

A GLASSHOUSE TECHNIQUE FOR EVALUATING BRASSICA OLERACEA GENETIC RESOURCES FOR RESISTANCE TO BREVICORYNE BRASSICAE, THE CABBAGE APHID

Authors:   P.R. Ellis, Pamela L. Saw, D.A.C. Pink
Abstract:
Techniques are described for evaluating Brassica oleracea accessions against the cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae, in the glasshouse. The plant material evaluated included a wide range of horticultural brassicas representing the genetic and geographic diversity of B. oleracea, thus forming a core collection of the crop. In total, 264 accessions were evaluated during a period of 18 months. Several sources of partial resistance were discovered in brassica cultivars and breeding lines.
