Abstract:
Boron has been recognised for more than fifty years as able to influence the impact of P. brassicae, the cause of clubroot disease, upon host plants.
Confirmatory evidence obtained from experiments undertaken in controlled environments and the field shows that the morphogenic change from plasmodium to sporangium in the root hair or epidermal cell is inhibited by boron.
This review discusses both the array of evidence and proposes mechanisms of action whereby these effects take place.
