Abstract:
Four cultivars of cima di rapa (B. rapa L.) with varying maturities were transplanted at four different dates (September 25, November 5, January 18 and March 10). The yield was higher with early transplanted crops and it showed a linear decreasing trend particularly with late cultivars (Di Gennaio and di Febbraio-Marzo). Premature heading was noted on a large number of plants of the earliest cultivar 'Quarantina'. Large differences were observed for the yield of early cultivars, but none for the late ones.
The experiment confirmed that manipulation of sowing or transplanting dates is an effective way of spreading harvest dates in order to achieve an orderly sequence of crops for the fresh market and for processing.
