Abstract:
We present a method of identifying plant species, using fractal properties.
To do this, we first convert a 2dimensional image (x,y) into a 3-dimensional image (x,y,z) treating grey level as a contour plot, then carry out a Fourier analysis on the resulting ‘terrain’, to yield sets of harmonic amplitudes A(kx, ky, kz), k = wave number.
Relationships between A, k, and N, the number of harmonics with amplitude greater than A are then established, and shown to vary a manner characteristic of the image under study, thus permitting discrimination.
