ISHS Acta Horticulturae 405: VI International Symposium on Postharvest Physiology of Ornamental Plants

A METHOD TO QUANTITATIVELY MONITOR WATER MOVEMENT THROUGH FLORAL ORGANS.

Authors:   S. Zeltzer, S. Mayak
Abstract:
A method to quantitatively monitor the amount of water and solutes arriving at the floral organs, related to the opening and the wilting of flowering stems of Gypsophila was developed. The method, essentially monitors the accumulation of an apoplastic tracer in the flower buds. This relates to the water movement in the flower buds. It was found that the method reflects quality of flowering stems.
