ISHS Acta Horticulturae 405: VI International Symposium on Postharvest Physiology of Ornamental Plants

THE EFFECT OF pH OF THE POSTHARVEST HYDRATING SOLUTION ON FLOWER OPENING OF ROSES AND GYPSOPHILA AFTER TRANSPORT SIMULATION

Authors:   K. D'Hont, J. Langeslag
Abstract:
Flowers of roses and gypsophila were hydrated in solutions of different pH. STS was used in the case of gypsophila. After a period of simulated transport, the stems were recut and the flower placed in tap water. Flower opening was followd during a 7 to 15 days period. No clear relationship was found between the pH of the postharvest hydrating solution and flower opening.
