ISHS Acta Horticulturae 405: VI International Symposium on Postharvest Physiology of Ornamental Plants

THE EFFECT OF FIELD APPLICATION OF K ON POST HARVEST BEHAVIOUR OF GLADIOLUS

Authors:   N. Roychowdhury, P. Roychowdhury
Abstract:
An investigation was conducted to study the effect of different sources and levels of K (4, 8 and 12 g K/m2) on quality and vase life of gladiolus. The application of K2SO4 at the lowest level produced maximum number of flowers per spike, while the maximum flower diameter was obtained by medium application. The spikes were after harvest placed in a 4 % sucrose solution. Maximum longevity was obtained after the application of medium amount of K2SO4. The application of K2SO4 at low and KNO3 and K2SO4 at medium level gave the maximum number of flowers opening at one time. However, field application of KNO3 at maximum application gave maximum period of prime beauty.
