THE EXCHANGE OF SUBSTANCES BETWEEN SOME CUT FLOWERS AND SOLUTIONS DURING VASE LIFE

Authors:   I. Burzo, A. Dobrescu, A. Amariujei, M. Stanica
Abstract:
Different quantities of electrolytes are emitted by cut flowers into solution during vase life. Exchange of substances depends on the species, the concentration of solution and its composition.

In distilled water Freesia flowers emitted 0.33 μS g-1 ml-1 day-1 and Chrysanthemum 6 times more electrolytes (1.92 μS g-1 ml-1 day-1).

By increasing the sucrose concentration in preservative solution to 3%, the passage of electrolytes from the cut flower into the solution was stimulated. Silver thiosluphate pulse for 24 hours of cut Freesia flowers inhibits this prosess compared to 8-HQC.
