STUDIES ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF SEED GERMINATION OF LILIUM DAURICUM

Authors:   Z. Xiaofang, L. Hongwei, Z. Xianguo, Y. Haibin, H. Yonghong
Abstract:
Lilium dauricum naturally grows mainly in the northeastern part of China. The northern limitation of its distribution is in the Xing'an Mountains lying along 50° north latitude. It is strongly resistant to coldness and is one of the best parents in genus Lily that new cold-resistant cultivars can be bred from it, Its cotyledons stay in soil after sprouting, Breeding work become difficult because L. dauricum is not easy to germinate. In this paper, we have made a systematic discussion on such aspects as seed germination characteristics, germination temperature condition, seed germination of different provenances and breaking dormancy from seeds, suggesting some useful information on the application in the breeding of L. dauricum.
