Authors:   J. Ti, F. Jinquan, C. Erhe, J. Ping
Abstract:
Mei flower (Prunus mume Sieb et Zucc), a kind of traditional flower originated in China, has been cultivated for 2 000 years. It's freezing resistance could be improved by grafting it on rootstocks as Siberian Apricot (P. sibirica L.), David peach (P. davidiana Franch), Peach (P. persica L.), Apricot (P. armeniaca L.), Flowering plum (P. triloba Lindl) and Myrobalan Plum (P. cerasifera Ehrh) at the hight of 1.0–1.5 m above the ground.

Bungo Series (P. mume var. bungo Makino), could endure the lower temperature of- 35°C in winter and could be cultivated in the open ground of northern China. Beauty Mei flower of Blireiana Series is of great ornamental value and a precious freezing-resistant cultivar. Most of the hybrid strains as cv. Yanxing Mel, cv Xiao xing Mei, cv. Ciexing Mei, cv. Yutao Mei etc. bred in recent years in China through hybridization between Mei flower and Apricot or David peach or Flowering Plum could endure - 35°C.
