THE SECOND REPORT IN THE CLASSIFICATION OF ORNAMENTAL PEACH-BLOSSOM CULTIVARS |

| Abstract:
Based on the survey and classification of Beijing's peach-blossom cultivars, the author furtherly investigated the blossom cultivars from some of other cities and provinces, It has been found that taking branch posture as the first classification criterion and flower form as the second classification criterion is not reasonable. For this reason, the author takes specific character as the precondition of classification. She then devices peach-blossom cultivars into 2 series, i.e. True Peach-Blossom Series and Davidiana Peach-Blossom Series. Furthermore leaf colour is taken as the first classification criterion, flower form as the second criterion is changed into flower colour. Fruit shape and fruit taste will be the third criterion. According to the above classification method, peach-blossom (Among them, 26 cultivars have been reported before, 23 new cultivars are reported here.) Being published on (Acta Horticulturae Sinica) early in 1991, the article --"A preliminary study on the investigation and classification of Peach-Blossom" --has attracted a lot of attention by many experts. The author investigated further to more ornamental Peach-Blossom cultivars in some cities and provinces in China in recent years and proposed that the classification system of ornamental Peach-Blossom need to be discussed in detail so that we could get a scientific classification system applying for production. | |
