Abstract:
Six Chinese species of Begonia collected in southeast Yunnan and in the Hainan Island have been successfully introduced into cultivation under glasshouse condition in Beijing.
The plants have been multiplied by seed, by vegetative propagation and by micropropagation techniques, which are described in this paper.
Four of the six species are included in the Second List of Rare and Endangered Plants of China, and the other two are also of very limited ranges of distribution.
They are valuable as ornamental plants or as breeding materials for new cultivars, and are worth growing for further research, conservation and utilization.
