ISHS Acta Horticulturae 403: International Symposium on Cultivar Improvement of Horticultural Crops. Part 2: Fruit Crops

SOME MORPHOLOGICAL PROPERTIES CORRELATING WITH HEAT RESISTANCE AND KEEPING QUALITY FOR STRAWBERRY BREEDING

Authors:   D. Xinmei, M. Hongxiang, D. Ziling
Abstract:
Some morphological properties correlating with major economic characters of strawberry were studied for obtaining fine strawberry cultivars, with high heat resistance and good keeping quality. The results indicate that fruit size, shape, color, nutritious substance content, keeping quality and plant heat resistance are related to some morphological properties. Such correlations make it available to select superior hybrid seeding at early time in strawberry breeding programs.

Study of correlations between morphological properties and some commercial characters of strawberry cultivars contributes to strawberry breeding efficiently. These correlated morphological traits can be taken as indicators at juvenile stage in strawberry breeding programs.
