Abstract:
The cell micro-ultrastructure of the secondary vasculartissue of the stem of nine varieties of the spur-type apple and two varieties of the standard-type apple was studied by Jeffrey's separation method and ultra thin cut technique.
The results indicate: (1) The vessel members of the secondary xylem of the spur-type and standard-type apple all are the pitted vessels. (2) The length and diameter of the vessel members of the spur-type apple are remarkable less than that of the standard-type apple. (3) The electronmicroscope measurement indicates that the secondary xylem and liber have more sieve elements and vessel members of abnormal growth, and the nacreous layer of the sieve and the secondary wall of the vessel are remarkable thicker than that of the standard-type varieties, and discovers that the vessel members and sieve elements have secondary thicken form of varied type and range.
