Banana and plantain are important eating fruits. Especially in the south of China. Superior Varieties of plantain have been highly regarded. "82-9" was a new plantain clone introduced from Bungladesh in 1982 by Guangdong Fruit Research Institute. Through systematic obserations of its agricultural characters, fruit quality, adaptness, disease resistance cold-hardiness and windproof capacity experts in pomology agreed that it was a selected clone in comparasion with other varieties of plantain. It is a promising clone and adapted to hillside and lower temperature regions. Its cold proof capacity and disease resistance have been attached great importance. Now it is propagated by tissue culture and its cultivaed area is increasing.
