ISHS Acta Horticulturae 403: International Symposium on Cultivar Improvement of Horticultural Crops. Part 2: Fruit Crops

STUDY ON RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FREE PROLINE CONCENTRATION OF CITRUS ANTHER AND POLLEN FERTILITY

Authors:   L. Jianjun, Q. Jurong, D. Zhenglin, C. Keling
Abstract:
There is a close relationship between the free proline content (FPC) in citrus anther and the pollen fertility. Proline was extracted with sulfosalicylic-acid and determined by the acid ninhydrin method. Significant differences of FPC in anthers were existed among the cultivars with different male fertility. The cultivars with normal fertility have higher proline concentrations than those- with partial or complete sterility. The proline concentration of anther is positively correlated with the pollen germination percentage.
