SUCCESSFUL DEVELOPMENT OF NEW SWEET (HOT) PEPPER CULTIVARS BY ANTHER CULTURE

Authors:   L. Chunling, Y. Baojun
Abstract:
The physico-chemical factors affecting the androgenesis, genesis and development of embryoids were studied and the technique of sweet (hot) pepper anthe culture was perfected with the high practical value. By this technique, the cultured anthers have the highest embryoid induction rate 20.21% and differentiation frequency 48.15%, and more than 500 plants via embryoid with their cheomosome doubled can be obtained annually which can survive after transplanted to fields. New cultivars can be developed directly from hybrids or varieties. So Far, 6 cultivars from anther culture and 6 hybrids with their parental lines from anther culture have been popularized to a total acreage over 38400 hectares throughout China, which results in an increase of 100 million of sweet (hot) pepper output.
