Abstract:
As a kind of vegetable, tomato was introduced to China in 1930's and grown only in peri-urbans of a few big cities.
Then tomato was more widely cultivated in 1950's due to its rich nutritions, special flavour and multipe use.
Right now its acrage of production is about 10–20% of multicropping vegetable land in addition to monocropping production for long distance transportations.
Tomato has been one of the most important vegetable crops in China.
Occurring of diseases on tomato was getting more frequent and severe which caused significant damage to tomato production in the beginning of 1970's in the way of yield decrease by 50–100%. The shortage of tomato supply in markets, resulted from shrinking growing acreage and reducing yield, attracted attentions from governments and growers as well as researchers for quick solutions.
