Abstract:
Using the separation ratio characters of the progenies after self-pollination and the expression of character on F1 generation the genetic tendency of main commercial characteristics was studied in Seed-watermelon.
The results showed that there were two types, smooth plate and pocky plate which had different levels rift on the surface of seed-shell.
They were opposites characters to be controlled by many genes and as quantitative character.
There were relationship of the incomplete dominance or recessiveness between them.
The progenies after self-pollination were similar to their parents in the smooth plate or extreme rift type.
The minute rift, half rift and complete rift were all of the heterozygote.
When they crossed with smooth type each other.
There were the paternal effect of different levels.
The seed width in the generations after self-pollination many times was able to stable genetics.
The broad sense heritabitily distributed from 86.2 – 94.0%. The dominance of the seed width generally expressed incomplete dominance for smaller parent, H = -0.0314. While a smaller seed width type was used as a mother parent and crossed with bigger one.
The F1 generation expressed the partial dominance of bigger parent.
H = 0.1519. When the half rift or complete rift types were crossed with other types, the general combining ability was higher and F1 generation showed higher the specific combining ability.
All the correlation coefficient reached the extreme significant level between width per seed and weight of 1 000 seeds, circumference and number of seeds in a single Seed-watermelon, circumference and weight of seeds per seed-watermelon.
