Abstract:
Water bamboo is one of the important aquatic vegetables in China.
It is widely distributed to the south area of Yellow River.
According to our ancient records in "Zhou Dynasty", it is used by its fruit for precious food or drug so called "Gume". Later on, it is cultivated for vegetable by its succulent stem caused by smut fungi stimulation.
We have collected 127 specimens of water bamboo from 10 more cities or provinces in our country and have conducted a series of study on them.
Now, based on the plant morphology as plant form, booting season and colour of scape, skin colour of edible organ, succulent scape shape and amount of winter sumt sori, we listed the following key.
In this paper, we introduce five varieties, which are some instances out of many that might be cited.
